11 years ago Jonathan and I moved our small business from Chicago to Texas, Jonathan wanted to return to the beautiful state where he grew up and I decided to tag along. At the time our business was quite small, not able to support us yet as it does now. When we first started, we developed our line of unique artisan soap and natural perfume which are still our sample products today. You can visit our main website oldfactorysoap.com. It wasn’t until later that we began making natural kitchen products. We moved to a small town (at the time) called Wimberley Texas – where I got a job working for Proteak (now Teakhaus by Proteak). They are one of the leading manufacturers of sustainable, organic Teak cutting boards. They are a sustainable forestry company, and grow all of the wood that eventually becomes a cutting board. Over the years I worked with the company in many different capacities, one of them being working at tradeshows and selling cutting boards. I would explain over and over again how to oil and maintain your teak cutting board – but we only offered mineral oil. Mineral oil is a byproduct of the petroleum industry, a material that I knew had a bad rap, as we had been working in the natural skincare industry for years by then. Why would I want to put such an ingredient on my cutting board, if I don’t want it on my skin? A fellow employee and Jonathan encouraged me to develop a natural alternative to the cutting board oil everyone is used to – and thats how our natural cutting board seasoning oil wax born! When we first developed the product it was unique on the market (and still today there are very few wood seasoners available that do not contain mineral oil). It has slowly transitioned into one of our best selling products.
