HOw to oil your wood cutting board
Wondering how to oil your wood cutting board? Don’t worry, its quick and easy with our natural cutting board oil or our natural cutting board wax. You don’t need both of our oil and wax products, just choose which one you’d rather use. The oil is quicker, and easier – but needs to be applied more frequently. The wax will give a longer projection, but is slightly more time consuming to use.
-
Wash your cutting board with a natural soap and water. Here is a link to our favorite chef soap, you can use it on your hands, cutting board, dishes, and so much more.
-
Let your cutting board dry fully.
-
If using liquid oil, there are several ways to apply. First squirt a tiny bit onto your cutting board and then work into the wood using your fingers, a paper towel, rag, or use a credit card/piece of cardboard to push the oil across the wood (the finger/card version makes sure that the oil is absorbed into the wood and not into the rag/paper towel). Don’t be afraid to use your fingers! This oil is not like mineral oil, it will be quickly absorb into your skin and give your hands some moisture. If using seasoning wax, use waxing pad provided and work the wax into the wood with a circular motion. Remember, a little goes a long way!
-
Let cutting board sit, and soak up liquid oil and wax for several hours before using. If this is a brand new cutting board, or an antique that it is particularly dry- it may need several coats.
- Repeat monthly, or as needed! After you have oiled your cutting board, take a mental note of how beautiful it is! Keep this mental image as a reminder for when your cutting board needs its next oiling.
